New AHRC Fellowships Scheme announced

The AHRC have announced the successor to the Research Leave Scheme; the announcement is reproduced below. Full documentation should be available from the AHRC website soon.

A good number of the suggestions contained in the BPA proposal (which you can read here) have been taken up, for example flexibility with respect to the % of time bought out and the length of the award, the decoupling from institutional research leave, and the early-career route, with specific mention of mentoring and career development. (We won’t know how many of our other proposals have been taken up until the full details are released.)

THE article on philosophy graduates & employment

The THE (1 Jan 2009) has published a very positive article on the employment prospects for philosophy graduates; click here to read it. A previous article from the Guardian Education in similar vein can be found in our November 2007 archives (click the link on the right). (Unfortunately, however, as Julian Baggini points out here, both of these articles misinterpret HESA data. So the news is rather less good than they claim.)
