The House of Commons Select Committee has now reported on the Government’s proposal to withdraw funding for Equivalent and Lower Qualifications (ELQs). The report is available here; you can see the BPA’s submission to the inquiry here.
In the light of several recent actions from the AHRC - including slashing the success rate for the Research Leave Scheme and continued involvement in the ERIH project despite strong opposition from a large number of A&H learned societies and subject associations - about 8 groups, including the BPA, are trying to set up a ‘rapid response group’, in order to, well, respond rapidly to AHRC actions. The BPA recently sent a representative (HB) to a meeting with the AHRC and representatives from 16 other subject associations/learned societies to discuss the European Reference Index for the Humanities. You can see a brief report on the meeting, together with some background information about the ERIH, here. We’ll be formulating a response, in collaboration with other subject associations, in due course.
